Moldovan labor law is governed by the Labour Code (Codul Muncii). The standard working week is 40 hours with a maximum of 8 hours per day. Employees receive a minimum of 28 calendar days of paid annual leave. Overtime is limited to 120 hours per year and compensated at 150% for the first 2 hours and 200% thereafter. Employment contracts must be in writing and registered with the employer. The probation period is a maximum of 3 months for regular employees and 6 months for managers. Social security contributions cover pensions, disability, and maternity benefits. Night work receives a premium of at least 50%. The minimum wage is set separately for the public and private sectors.

Rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Chisinau costs 4,000-7,000 MDL (200-350 EUR) per month. Monthly groceries average 2,500-4,000 MDL. A public transport monthly pass costs about 200 MDL. Utilities including heating and internet run about 1,500-2,500 MDL per month. A meal at an inexpensive restaurant costs 80-150 MDL. A single worker can live on approximately 7,000-10,000 MDL per month.

Moldova has a moderate continental climate with warm summers reaching 25-30°C and cold winters dropping to -5°C or below. Rainfall is moderate, with the wettest months in June and July. The climate is suitable for viticulture, which is a major agricultural activity.
