Overview

Labor Laws

Moldovan labor law is governed by the Labour Code (Codul Muncii). The standard working week is 40 hours with a maximum of 8 hours per day. Employees receive a minimum of 28 calendar days of paid annual leave. Overtime is limited to 120 hours per year and compensated at 150% for the first 2 hours and 200% thereafter. Employment contracts must be in writing and registered with the employer. The probation period is a maximum of 3 months for regular employees and 6 months for managers. Social security contributions cover pensions, disability, and maternity benefits. Night work receives a premium of at least 50%. The minimum wage is set separately for the public and private sectors.

Work Permit Process

Step 1: The Moldovan employer applies for a work permit at the National Employment Agency (ANOFM). Step 2: A labor market test is conducted over 15 working days. Step 3: The work permit is issued for up to 1 year. Step 4: The worker applies for a long-stay visa at the Moldovan Embassy or consulate. Step 5: Upon arrival, the worker registers with the immigration authorities within 3 days. Step 6: A temporary residence permit is obtained from the Bureau of Migration and Asylum.
